Additional middle seats Westy California

Post by chrisevans »

I am interested in what the additional seating available as an option on the California. I think its two extra seats on a track in the floor. I would like the ability to gave a seven seat on occasion if insurance allows it. Anyone got this option or have done something similar? This link give you an idea http://www.westfaliat3.info/assets/imag ... atBank.jpg

sorry to be late in on this one - i have been off the forum for a while.

this is a conversion I did some time ago - removable middle seats have been good for family trips and transporting junior rugby teams!

a good exposition on how to do it here https://shufti.wordpress.com/2010/08/19 ... o-a-westy/

there are special westfalia middle seats which fold forward but they are rare so i bought a regular set of vanagon middle seats which slide in and just fit. the only downside is that it is a bit of a clamber to get in and out of the back row of seats - no problem for a child though.

what i would really like are the trays and covers for the rails i have installed - would finish it off nicely - but again, i have not found them for sale anywhere.

As to them being heavy - i can manhandle them into the van on my own - and they make an "attractive" set of extra seats in the house when not in van mode.

one final comment - it only transports six unless you double up a seatbelt on the rear row and then seven is theoretically possible. Not done this though.

I used a rear seat from a Sharan in our camper

You could maybe put two side by side? I'm not sure if later Sharan (mine was '98) had Three point belts built into the seat, mine was a lap belt and was the middle rear seat in the Sharan
