road tax won't change, my insurance premium didn't with my engine transplant, doesn't mean yours wouldn't though.

It will push your 094 transmission to the limit with around 230bhp* and nearly 300 Nm output...

Re: tempted by a subaru ez30 engine
Don't really intend to thrash it , just want to cruise at about 80 on European motorways and have the power to accelerate up hills. Also the smoothness of a modern 6 cylinder engine and the fact it doesn't need cam belt changes is tempting.
Oh yeah and it looks/sounds pretty cool

Re: tempted by a subaru ez30 engine
I would (and am) going UN1 to handle the torque. I know someone with a Carat with an EG33 on a UN1, reckons its the perfect combination.

Re: tempted by a subaru ez30 engine
Apart from an adaptor plate to mate to bell housing what else do you need to get the un1 working? Do drive shafts need modifying?
Looking on eBay they are pretty pricey !

Forget those trade comedians on ebay trying to unload old 369's, keep an eye out and one will turn up at sensible money.

Re: tempted by a subaru ez30 engine
Having recently driven a 3.0 h6 subaru i can say that its am awsome engine. Quite tame and noemal at the lower end of the rev range and an absolute animal once its above 3k. It would be an absolute joy in a van making a real sleeper. If you dont go down this route i am sure that there will be a couple of syncros going this route in the next year or so.

Yeah saw that lloydy

looks quite involved and not cheap so probably gonna stick with normal 5 speed for now.
not easy finding a donor vehicle for the H6 ez30 - all seem to be very high mileage and automatic or too good to break.
tempted to put a cheap ej20 in, in the mean time

Re: tempted by a subaru ez30 engine
looked at that subarugears kit again and doesnt look as hard as i first thought and thinking about cost - if i have a donor vehicle with a good gearbox then saves me the price of the rjes bellhousing and gearbox rebuild so not so far off the mark pricewise....
hmm too many options now,
donor vehicle first i guess and take it from there....

Re: tempted by a subaru ez30 engine
I dont think you will fing a manual 3.0 h6 as they the legasey out backs were all autos. Also the milage dose not realy matter as the engines are so strong it the rest of the car that will fail before engine gives up.

Re: tempted by a subaru ez30 engine
So 150,000 miles is nothing to worry about? That opens up more possibilities.
