Rear bumpers
Quick one how do the mounts for the rear bumpers fit to the bodywork? They were taken off by someone else and I cant see how it fits?

Steel or grp?
Either way the main irons plug into the two 80 x 40 holes in the rear valance. The bolts are fitted through the side of the chassis rails and into the irons from inside the rear wheel wells.

You can also strengthen it with a scaffold pole welded between the two mounts and hidden behind the bumper. Thats pretty much how my towbar was made.

Hmm... towbars have three bolts each side, the bumper irons only two.
Not to be recommended imho, but putting a bit of scaff between them will protect your engine a little from the tailgater that fails to stop.

My tow bar has additional support bars and plates but yep it does strengthen back end.
Mind you, that said I've never had cause to actually tow anything.

welding a scaff bar does sound like a good idea... that may be a upgrade at somepoint. I assume you've told the insurance about that one?

Got the bumper back on today. Towbar only is fixed at two locations either side, the bumper irons are at three points.the two locations for the towbar is through the bumper irons in the first two holes.

Thats why I fitted a westy swan neck originally, It's now used for a bike rack but it's never towed anything.
I think a minor rear end shunt would kill a wbx so I'd reccomend everybody with a wbx fits a towbar.

mines for on street parking protection. Might mount some spikes to the front one also.

A diesel or 5 cyl would fare worse, its all a lot closer to the rear end but I get your point, a wbx alloy crank case would probably burst in a hard shunt but then you may have more to worry about by then...

If I put mine alongside all of the commercial ones I've seen, mine is undoubtedly in the 'military' heavy duty area but hidden behind the bumper.
To cut a long story shorter, I had the tow ball and plate and was literally sizing up some box steel to make one when my neighbour (who welds heavy industrial framework) came out, and reappeared with a whopping bit of tubular steel and his mig welder. Never seen such neat welding. Within an hour it was on, bolted up and painted. Wouldn't sell it. Future plans are to fit a rack which bolts on to it for extras I don't want to carry inside but its peace of mind in the event of a moderate rear shunt. I must take a picture of it at some time.
The only time I've actually used it was to fit a tow ball cycle rack, another thing I won't part with as it folds away so neatly.
