Lost all my coolant

Post by renny »

Took the bus out for a spin to super market .when I got home I notice coolant pouring out under the engine passenger side slightly towards the gear box side . Any clues on the elimination process to find out what it is .I'm no mechanic but I'm keen to know how to look after my motor myself .any help would be greatly appreciated .cheers

best bet it to crawl under and see where its coming from. you may have to refill with coolant to help find the problem.

Renny - just a little tip - there is a signature field that you can set up through user control panel and the profile option, E D I T signature - if you put the year and engine of the bus in there, people can help better! from your post we are guessing diesel or petrol, early or late, etc etc...and all of that alters prime suspects for a water leak!

Good luck and welcome!

OK late waterboxer, there are some big pipes on the passenger side.
A water pump, A thermostat housing and a cylinder head.

Fill it up with water into the header tank (inside the engine bay), run the engine and try to see where it's coming out.
You won't cause any damage as long as you keep it to 5 mins.

<My money is on the big hose/pipe/thermostat housing :D

When you fill the header tank up to the brim rev the engine to get more water in..
If no leaks after 2 mins continue for 20

That's the header tank not the top up tank.

Has the system been re bleed ?

If it's the hose from the T/stat housing to the heater matrix it won't leak until the stat opens once the injun's up to temperature.
