There was a product called 'Polyshine' in the 70's/80's. It was described as a polymer sealent. It stopped paint fade and resisted attack from certain chemicals. It was really good stuff. There's a product we used to spray on carpets too, not sure if it was called Flotex or similar. If you spilled on it the liquid could be removed without leaving a stain if done quickly enough. If the products are anything like those then I would say go for it. If you are spending £30k on a car then an extra £400 is hardly going to make a dent is it? Can you not hard bargain them and get it free. Make it a deal breaker.

400 sounds a bit rich though there is a lot of work.
There are many products that you can use yourself. Have a look at Wolf's Bodywrap.

You are buying a car costing between 30 and 50 grand and you are worried about a 400 quid optional extra?

Snake oil IMO.
How long do you intend to keep the car? If you want it for the next 30 years maybe consider it, but otherwise modern paint will be up to the job and leather isn't hard to clean unless you'll be drinking red wine in the car
We have vans over 25 years old and some with their original paint. If a range rover can't withstand normal conditions I'd be looking for another motor.

I work for a main dealer. This is an add on for the salesman's bonus. Don't buy it is not worth it. It is merely a fancy wax. The paint and leather on all range rovers are of superb quality, they have paint warranties that last for years. All modern paints are highly durable acrylics that are made to withstand an extreme range of temperatures. Remember acrylic is a plastic and a very tough one.
The best way to look after the paint and interior is a regular clean and wax.

Give me £400 and I will come and wax both your cars, topless if you want.......

Re: new car paint protection package- worth it?
after a visit to thed dealers i Canceled the package as i can get the same wax and do the job myself for a lot less.
thanks for the offer of a topless wax but as the car is due delivery in febuary you probably freeze to death befor you were finished.
along with this package i was presented with other offers, wheel and tyre insurance £500, gap insurance £700.
declined them as well.
cheers

Gap insurance can be worth it on a brand new motor due to the depreciation, but you can get it for quite cheap, 700 notes is taking the mickey.

I've always told them pesky dealers I don't take delivery with out it, as they rate it so highly it must be included in the package.

Thats only worth considering if the car has been pre-registered.Dealers do this for a registration kick-back from the VM. Even if it's only got one tenth of a mile on it, you are the second owner and as such, your insurer won't pay out on a llike for like basis should you total it, they only do that if you are the first owner or keeper..
And don't bother with the pint guard stuff. Cars are tested in desert conditions for extra heat paint film breakdown and sun weathering. In my body shop days, we did the body shop tech manual for Jaguar for then then unreleased X type; one car we worked on was chassis no 5 and that had been used in the desert, it was full of sand and various foreign coins . None were worth a carrot either

Re: new car paint protection package- worth it?
I had Swiss Vax treatment on my Audi. It was £200 and they had the car for the day. They did inside outside alloys etc n it was immaculate. Can't remember the details but they deep cleaned the paintwork before applying the swissvax. It was done by a detailing company in lincoln. It was twice the effort for half the price that the trader offered for their treatment.
