Door won't open from inside (Nissan and Renault)

Post by meggles »

(Sorry it's not a VW fix but some of you may have a Nissan/Renault/Citroen etc with same problem).
OK, it's about my Nissan but also applies to some Renaults too, and probably more. The inside drivers door handle on my 2007 Nissan Note would not open the door. To cut a long story short: There's a small button on the door catch mechanism which had dropped down into the locking position. This is behind the metal panel of the door so a partial strip down is required. About 30 mins work as opposed to a bill in excess of £100. A fairly common fault on this type of mechanism it would seem. Here's a link which explains it better than I can.

Thanks for posting this up. My better half has a Modus so I will (try to) remember this for if the problem occurs.

It is necessary sometimes to remind yourself why our VeeDubs are so good. I certainly remember it when I remove both front wheels, wheelarch liners and front bumper to carry out a major repair to the Modus. That is to change a headlamp bulb!

Apparently there is a VW model with the same/similar Renault designed locking mechanism. I'll try to find out which one. Incidentally: My VW ( ) Yaris is a nightmare to change the headlight bulb on too. Drivers side one IIRC.
