A bit of info that may be of some relevance to the final installation of thie engine.
This is the ecu from my Oettinger 2500E, to which I had scarcely given a glance:

I half expected it to be the 022D ecu with the removeable chip, but it seems not :?

Great read so far...

It would be great to compare the engine with the 2.1 sitting in mine (which Ian also built), I guess they would both be considered 0mile engines.

I know it will only end up with me wanting one though :|

At the risk of self-congratulation...your MV turned out really well in the end Mike. Both Simon and I were really impressed with the part-throttle performance and pick-up, never mind it being a syncro Westy on oversize tyres.

Just goes to show how good a fresh WBX really can be ;)

Self-congratulation well deserved. It's the best 2.1 I have ever driven / owned. It is getting better too, as I build up the miles. I'm sure this 2.5 will be perfect though, especially as Pete's van is similar weight and tyre size as mine, that extra power will make the WBX experience even better.

Waay Haay!! :ok :ok

I've got to get my act in gear now and sort out the last of the ancilliaries this weekend. Ian - I'm going to make a list out of the various emails and then I should get stuff sorted and couriered up to you early next week. I will also reply to your most recent e mails about seals, clearances behind the N/S rear light etc.

When its all run in Mike we'll have to meet somewhere halfwayish between us for a weekend and compare notes. Can't wait to see your Westy which looks great in the pics.

This thread is making me rethink the future of my 2.1. I was leaning towards a 1.8t swap in a year but now I'm not so sure.

These 2.5 should be good for 150 bhp and 200+Nm, maybe a whiff more with a good exhaust.
The MV spec Oettingers used to make 140PS amd 200Nm, you might expect the DJ ecu versions to be a bit better but these 2500 are 9.7:1 compression and my cam is different.
Fit Megasquirt or similar sequential efi & mapped ignition and it will be bigger numbers and better mpg ;)

I'm hoping to get the box rebuilt early next year, if I can get a booking from Mr Talbot. Then I think I'll be talking to you about a rebuild, I really hope Pete posts some pics and videos once it's installed.

Ok. I will be building a second 2.5 as a speculation hot on the heels of this one, now that the hard lessons have been learned.
