A little difficult to describe, but I'll give it a go,
On the gear selector lever there is a sprung copper contact, On my van this had worn away, so I replaced it with a piece of copper sheet.
The fixed contacts are in a plastic block, one pair of contacts manage the reversing lights.
The other contacts connect to the starter circuit and need to be bridged, by the sprung contact, to start the van.

The plastic block is fixed with two screws. When loosened the block can be moved slightly to set where the gear lever is when the contact is made.
