Weird Leisure Battery Wiring? - Mystery Wire!

Post by taylort25 »

Hi Folks

Recently bought my T25 camper so still exploring it's quirks and kinks!

It has a zig unit and wiring ready for a leisure battery under the driver seat. Today I came to install my new leisure battery but walked away a little stumped!

The positive terminal has had an extra fuse spliced on along with and extra wire that disappeared under the driver seat...

After following said wire it ended up in behind the glovebox near the fuses but not attached to anything?

Will do some more thorough investigating at the weekend but wondered if anyone had any thoughts? Or if anyone had seen this before?

Cheers!

Maybe someone had run a live feed to have stuff on leisure up there. We have done that for the cd player, cigarette lighter and a dash fan. All get used when not driving so made sense.

Could well be for a radio as they are known for draining starter batteries, hence they get wired to the leisure battery instead so that gets drained instead

Mine is wired similarly to that, as described by other comments here and for the same reasons.
Seems weird yours has been disconnected though, so could only assume there was an issue with the leisure circuit, which prompted a previous owner to wire certain bits back to the starter battery..

You're probably going to need a multimeter to work it out.

It could be it was only a battery fault that prompted the removal of extra wire to a stereo and the rest is as standard, but it seems extreme if that was the case, rather than just instal a new battery.

Do your internal lights In the rear all work off of the starter battery too?
What conversion do you have? ( eg holds worth or Devon camper etc, it might be a westfalia too as I notice you say leisure batt is under the drivers seat which makes me think it's LHD )

The wiki has diagrams of how certain conversions are wired, but even if standard, each conversion model differs I think.

If I were you, I would ascertain what works off the starter battery first, that should give an indication as to what has been altered and where to start. Once you know that, and what conversion you have, people can help more.
