california Bodywork

Hi , I have just bought a 1990 Cali - the bodywork is tired in the normal places. I am weighing up my options in terms of rectifying this.
1. Pay someone to do the job well - quoted approx £5k (all panel work and windows out respray ,including stickers replacing etc
2. Pay someone to do the job - quoted £1k if I supply materials
3. Do the job myself - I have a mig, compressor etc , have done a course 5 years ago ,but need some practice .
The problem I have is time (young family/job etc) and I live in a quiet street (grinding etc probably not appreciated. Also my wife does not want me to open any money on a van we only use at most twice a year .
Would welcome all your input especially metalmick8y!

I've seen many friends enter the fray on this, most lost all their friends, their money and some their wives. My advice; sell it to someone who has the time, money and enthusiasm to do it properly and save this van. You save up for a more sorted and usable van which you can tinker with, Happy Wife = Happy you. Just my two pennith.

Oh and I know you're joking but you can hire a T5 California for £120 a day, for you Bi-Annual trips [OK HAND SIGN]

Wow. That looks like a lot of work, and judging by some of the threads I've seen on here before, it'll be a lot worse under the surface than it appears from the outside. I'm guessing metalmick8y will be along soon to give you the run down.

If you take it on yourself then I wouldn't worry about practice - you'll get plenty. Also I would suggest you get yourself over to the mig-selding forum and start reading:
