Well the DW transmission will be on its way to a new home in the next few days, I have removed the Legacy crossmember and the loom isnt far behind.
After a brief moment of madness when I was told of a UN7 trans and diff package on ebay (ex-R21 turbo Quadra) I am sticking to the plan:
Drive the rear wheels, steer from the front. No sense ruining precise light steering with the weight of ultra-rare AWD parts and even more 1-off complication.
Somebody please buy this and remove the sick temptation:

I think the quadra trannies are the ones that Tim Shettle was going to fit to his, post started on brickwerks, then decided to have Jean-Louis rebuild his syncro box with the longer gears to suit the TDi, then punted this on to Andrew who was going to use it to complete the syncro missing the gearbox and Tim was going to do the work but Andrew has a bun in the oven so everything is for sale, afaik noone has done a quadra conversion on a T3 but I may be wrong, but quadras are rarer than syncros, for a reason

In my case, going from 2wd and not using syncro fuel tank and subframe etc would have made for a lot of work, the 3.44 f/d would have made it very tall geared and as you said, the rarity and spares supply would make it a liability.

Result! Found a source for the correct gearknob gate badge that suits the UN1, with a choice of sizes :)

Five years ago, Alex in Hawai'i went UN-1with an EJ22, so there's plenty of experience to draw on here:

It has been brought to my attention that I may have made a small c0ckup...

Having modified the CV flanges for the UN-1 and made them symmetrical, I completely forgot that the wbx is slightly offset to the right

I am sure that the driveshaft splines can take up the difference on a lowered bus, but to be on the safe side I measured from the case centreline to the left and right mounting holes on the moustache bar, when bolted up:

L 595mm, R 580mm

But it looks like simply slotting the end "foot" holes in the bar by 7.5mm is possible and will be a quick fix :D

Of course, I could always go the whole hog and get a fresh one waterjet profile cut from 30mm alloy plate, do a bit of CNC milling to make it into an I-beam, have some new feet welded on it...

Further to conversations at the weekend (and while I sit here with a streaming head cold)

What's the part number for the Bosch/Focus pump?

0 392 022 002 and suffix 010 for the more powerful one fitted to the big Mercs. I have all the performance curves if you want to get really in depth.

Good spot! The connections are in the best orientation and the OA length is less than the radiator so no problem with hose connections. The core depth is 24mm so should not kill the air flow and will clear the centre box section and the height is close to half of the existing core so you could fit 2 for ultimate cooling/hedge betting as they are a good price.

Looks like a lot more early XJR V8 supercharged are being broken up now, meaning that I picked up an Eaton M112 centre plenum for not much via ebay :)
It will need an adaptor plate to sit on the Opcon, but that's a lot easier than making the whole thing with angled discharge ports etc plus it gives me a filling point for the coolers.

It's one of these:

Image

I will also have to acquire the spectacle plates and seals that secure the chargecoolers to the plenum (they allow a bit of expansion movement)

Not forgetting to dress off the V8 logo

Logo no more and all dressed down with 32 grit and a mallet ;)
Image
Offered up and things are still looking good, even better than before in fact :)
Image
Even with a 2" spacer under the plenum the height off the rear lifting eye is still looking good:
Image
This means that I now have a realistic chance of fitting the vacuum bypass and plumbing it into the compressor inlet as per the oem Jag setup :D

Ok I need a little help from my wbx brethren, in the form of a measurement pulled from a standard 5-speed bus.

Confronted with a completely empty engine bay, I offered up a moustache bar and measured from the lower engine mount bolts up to the underside of the (metal) engine hatch frame. This gave me a max installed dimension of 485mm, shown here on the mock-up engine:
Image
Its looking snug at the pulley end, but I don't know how much the engine/transmission is angled downward at the front end.
I am seeing around 180mm from the top of the front lifting eye to the top of the chargecooler ducts, the question is: will this still clear the steel engine hatch?
Image
PS this is measuring to the underside of the steel hatch itself, not the aperture in the body.
