By the looks you will need the bracket that fixes to the manufold and the Pierburg spindle see in these pics, the spindle sometimes comes with 2nd hand carb sometimes not, removes with a spring clip
I see - that makes sense. My Solex has the bracket attached in a different location, i.e. on the gearbox / engine mount.
The odd thing is though, after checking this morning, my existing setup has a pancake with the serial number 025 129 654A on it.
Only has one hole though but has same serial number as the one listed as needing for Pierburg carb, but does not have the three holes it would need for a Pierburg ( if I am looking at the photos correctly. )
Does this mean the one quoted as me should not be 025129654, but rather should be something else?
What does your serial number read on your pancake inlet?

there are oval and rectangular air filters fitted to DGs it looks to me like you can just keep your air filter box and flexi joining pipe but I'm not 100% sure

Will I just need the pancake bit, or will I need the rest of the air filter too?

You can keep the same air filter they are the same for both engines, just there are square ones for early models and round ones for later models.

So let me get the bits first - which will take months - then I will think about swapping everything over.
I should have a manifold sourced from KevtheRev, and a carb from online, but will need to wait to have the funds to get the carb refurbished ( probably in the new year. )
Am I right in thinking I will need to set the timing for the new set-up?
If so, I will research that nearer the time.
Can anyone verify if the distributor I have is specific to a DF engine?
If so, I am thinking it might be that the cams in the case are actually of a DF design.

As you have DG heads I think you can assume you have a VW recon DG
stop worrying about the cam
yes your dizzy is for a df and yes it needs changing, timing is critical to engine performance.
probably OK worth a punt, irishkeet sells stuff on Brickyard also.
Thanks Itchy.
I should have all the bits coming soon from another source now. I am thinking this will remain a project for the new year, as I will prob need carb refurbing. ( i may even wait until one of the replacement components goes faulty, and then change the lot - still undecided )
If the person contacting me regarding the bits doesn't contact me again tonight, I will bid on that item - plenty of time left on it.

Took delivery of some parts I will need for this project today.
Still undecided whether I will wait for my existing carb or distributor to pack up before I make the change, but either way I was well chuffed to see XMAS came early this year.!!
Thanks to Git Monkey for sending the bits.

your existing carb and dizzy are 25+ years old and may well last another 20 years, no point hanging around.
swap one at a time.
I'd swap dizzy first then run it with correct timing and solex, just bung up the extra vac pipe from solex.
before you do suck and blow on the new dizzy pipe, check the plate inside moves on suck and that you can't blow.
