If I connect a solar panel to charge my leisure battery will I have to disconnect the old split charge system from said leisure battery?

Only a 100w and that works perfectly fine for our uses.

In answer to the original question, no you don't need to disconnect the split charge....
The solar controller will deal with it ....
However you may as well fit a switch in the trigger wire to the split charge , so you can switch it off in the summer at least, you won't need it !
Mine is switched off all summer, the solar panel more than keeps up with useage

Why bother if the bat is fully charged it won't draw much current when the engine is running. I cannot see the point?

Since fitting the panel my engine charging circuit for the leisure has been disconnected.
It now powers a water heater.

Because there is no point it being switched on, no point wearing the relay out .
But it is needed n the winter .
