ok dokey friends!
My relay is having a field day! Buzzing, repeating etc etc Using the indicator stops it.
so, I have investigated and the relay is a halfruads one...so its coming out and a vw one going in.
I have found a three terminal one...49a 49 and 31.
I'm thinking I may also have an earth issue....are any of those terminals earths?
regards
indicator relay

Yes - 31 is the earth.
There's a reference for DIN terminal numbers here on Wikipedia. Very useful for working out what each relay does.

Re: indicator relay
Thanks - that is one to print off and store in the folder!

so I have the following live terminals:
49 flasher unit in
49a flasher unit out, indicator switch in
what is a flasher unit?
why don't the indicators have an out?
just trying to understand

Re: indicator relay
I think this is how it works:
The flasher unit is the relay.
The indicator switch 'out' is the feed to the indicator bulbs
49 is a continuous live (not sure if it's permanent, or ignition controlled, or on the X circuit).
The relay's job is to turn this continuous live into a pulsed live, to feed the indicators (via the stalk switch).
When the indicator switch is switched, there is then a path to earth for the 49a pulsed output via the indicator bulbs, so they flash.

Re: indicator relay
hi and thanks
if we can use hazards without ignition being on....would this mean 49 is continuous live? (or at least not ignition switched??)
???
making more sense though...taa

Not necessarily. I've got an old Beetle wiring diagram in front of me that shows the continuous live supply (49) coming from the hazard switch. The hazard switch is fed by a permanent live (30) AND an ignition controlled live (15). I think the permanent live is so that the hazard lights can be used without the ignition, but the ignition controlled live is what's normally fed to 49, so the indicators only work with the ignition on. I suspect the T25 is the same.

Re: indicator relay
yeah - that would make sense....put your indicators on without ignition and you get side lights....I forgotted this
