I was worrying about the front mechanical window regulators - one too sloppy one too stiff when closing. I decided to replace them - I don't wait till old parts break. A serious pain. I ordered replacements from VW Heritage (Miele parts) as they seemed like a good idea. As I was busy working I got a trusted body shop to fit them for me back in July. A disaster. They didn't fit - quote not fit for purpose - the windows would not close. I'm guessing they were made in China or India. I sent them back to VW Heritage and they refunded me part of cost. Cheers for that guys.
After returning from our hols in France in August I went to Gowesty that advertises these parts are from VW South Africa. They took three days to arrive from the USA - brilliant. It then took two weeks to arrive through UK customs and the Post Office. They were really expensive to buy and then import. They are no better. In a nutshell what's available seems to be crap. The only positive result is my bodyshop mates refused to charge me with the effort they put in because they were unhappy with the parts from both companies. This is the first time that I've not managed to get quality parts (never buy from JK). Anybody else got a better supplier/idea? It was suggested that I should replace them with motorised regulators!

The few times I've broken T25s for scrap, the window regulators are one of the first things I remove. Now and again you get some originals that are in first class condition.

Re: Window regulators - a pain
the right side one is still available genuine from vw classic parts just under a hundred euros
Gunzl, Jager, Tristar, Buschmeide etc... may have the left side, but generally left side parts run out first as a lot more lhd trucks out there and the drivers side gets used more and suffers more accident damage

Thanks Aidan. I contacted VW Classic Parts and unfortunately they import
the window regulators from VW South Africa, the same supplier that Gowesty got them from!

shame they quote it as genuine not classic+partsbut it may be in the end that's what you would have been supplied by VW with rather than them make another batch in europe post 2002 hence they ended up in their stockRalf85 wrote:Thanks Aidan.
