Pulsing brakes . Any ideas ?

Post by Dazco »

Earlier this year i replaced the front discs, pads and wheel bearings followed by new rear drums , springs and shoes. I noticed before the mot last month that I was getting a definite pulse through the pedal when braking that appears to be speed related.
The van passed the brake test on the MOT fine and the tester didn't pick up on anything.
What I find strange is its intermittent. If it was a warped disc or drum it would be doing it all the time surely. Anyone got any ideas ?

Only a guess as I am not sure of the caliper type that you have, but I have experienced similar when the caliper is less than free moving on the mounting pins.

I'd say warped discs but as you say the fault is intermittent, very odd...

Brakes are early callipers . I'll be stripping it all down in the next few weeks to check it all . Braking performance doesn't seam to be affected , like I said it flew through the brake test on Mot.
Re warped disc with it being intermitant I would doubt it but I'll check runout.

Had exactly the same problem recently, except mine were continually pulsing & not intermittent. Rear drums the culprit so got some proper OEM ones and now all is fine.
