Exposed threads

Post by what2do »

Refurbishing a variety of suspension and steering components at the minute. The front radius rods have a lot of exposed thread and I was wondering how best to protect these from the elements once reassembled. I'm hoping to get them powder coated but I imagine I'll have to mask the threads - correct? Many thanks.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Aye, Vactan. I painted a rusty gate bolt with Vactan six years ago and its still doing its job despite being out in all weathers.

Of course, obvious! Had thought about waxoyl as that's what I use on the exposed part of hydraulic rams when they're left outside for the winter (ploughs and other farm machines), but Vactan will be far more suitable.

Hi, I have seen a sticky brown fabric tape been used to protect threads on ships, not sure what it is called, just know it's a bit of a bugger to get off your hands

Sounds like denzo tape. Our cable jointers use it as a temporary fix when required to do a quick repair.

I cut mine off. Don't do this. Refitting not fun when they are short.
