Hi Everyone,
I'm off with the camper this weekend to Spain for 2weeks and she's started playing up intermittently. She is a 1980 T25 Vanagon Westfalia Injection.
So, under heavy throttle, she chokes and tries to come to a hault until I take my foot off the gas, when she is then fine. Often if I turn her off And start her up again, she'll behave as normal. I don't get it. I feel like it must be something relatively simple.
She's had a new fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel lines, rotor arm, plugs and leads fitted a little while ago and was fine.
Obviously I'm nervous to take here to Europe with this issue, but I'm gonna anyway. I'd just like some pointers in case I have to help the foreign mechanics figure it out.
Tony Heines in Carshalton couldn't see anything obvious with it.
Your experienced thoughts welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Mikey

Re: HELP - Van chokes under heavy throttle
To me that sounds like fuel starvation, maybe crud in the tank.

Hi Mikey.
I'm guessing an American spec air-cooled?
Which motor is it?MikeyVanagon wrote:a 1980 T25 Vanagon Westfalia Injection

Re: HELP - Van chokes under heavy throttle
Hi guys,
Thanks for the tips.
So we've made it past Caen, France!!
So where is this snorkel(s) located? I'd be over the moon if it was that simple!
With regards to fuel starvation, any suggestions why / how?
FYI, I was getting circa 300miles per tank before all this, and now it appears I'm getting more like 200miles.
Do you think it is worth getting someone in France to look at it? I'm heading to rennes
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Mikey
