Fitting "screw-in" mudflaps

I've just had my van (1984 T25 Westfalia Joker) resprayed, and the guy that did the work has removed the old, knackered mudflaps and chucked them away.

I've got a new set from Brickwerks:

but I'm mystified as to how to fit them (it would have helped if I'd seen how the old ones came off).

With the fitting kit supplied, I have the following (per mudflap):

• - 2 plastic plugs, which I assume fit into holes drilled into the body work
  - 1 bolt with a washer and locking nut
  - One short, fat screw
  - One weird "headless screw thing", that's got coarse thread at one end and a fine thread at the other

It looks as though I'm going to need four bolts per flap, not one (two to attach the bracket to the underside of the van and two to join the bracket to the flap). I've got plenty of nuts and bolts hanging around, so this isn't a problem, but does anyone know what the short, fat screw is for?

Secondly, how do I attach the flap to the bodywork? I guess I need to find the (painted-over) holes in the body (two per flap?) and fit a plastic expansion plug to each hole, then screw the finely threaded ends of the weird-screw-things into the body. But then how do I attach the coarsely threaded ends to the mudflap? Just drill some fine holes in the flap and push it firmly onto coarse threads, or something?

I need to look like I know what I'm doing, because I'm already getting grief from the missus about damaging the new paintwork

All sorted now

Turns out the previous owner had made lots of weird modifications to the underside of my van. Once I'd got rid of all the unnecessary home-made brackets the new mudflaps went on easily.

Would anyone know if these brackets are available on their own anywhere?
