I've posted this on seatcupra.net too but would welcome any help from wiser and cleverer people here too-
Help me.
Ok, history ,-I have a 2003 Ibiza 1.9 tdi sport with a revo remap to 170bhp, with 127000 miles on it.
It had a turbo whistle for about 10 months. THEN.....
Yesterday I was over taking someone in 3rd gear missed the change to 4th but still floored the pedal, the engine hit the limiter and revved hard after I'd taken my foot of the pedal. After there was no boost at all. (I assumed a boost pipe had blown off) I drove for about 10 miles like this and the turbo was making louder whistles than normal. Stopped for about an hour but could not see any pipes off. Here comes the catastrophe, ... After only about 2 miles there was CLOUDS of smoke from the exhaust and uneven revving, I stopped and switched the engine off, oil was dripping from the exhaust and there was smoke from the oil filler. There was no engine light on ever.
So, oh wise people, is it terminal or fixable (£700).
All knowledge greatfully received.
Nic.

Re: 1.9 tdi catastrophe.(seat Ibiza)
Depends how badly you over-revved it, To the redline should be ok, beyond it and you're talking actual engine damage. Does the engine sound louder than usual? started knocking or anything?
It's likely that you've just killed/damaged the turbo, overspeed = snapped shaft or shredded impeller(s), in which case you shouldn't run the car until it's replaced. If the engine starts to ingest its own oil then the engine will start to burn it and go into Diesel runaway (especially if there is any life left in the turbo). Provided you still have the shut-off (anti-shudder) valve in place and not one of those silly 'straight-through' pipes then you'll be ok as this will stop the Air flow. If you've gotten rid of it (like many do) then DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE.
Prices, Assuming it's originally a 130 motor with 130 turbo (GT1749V I think) then;
Engine - Prices vary wildly with mileage and age, but £200 to 500 for a PD130
Turbo - I bought one recently for £120, average price I think.
Fitting - Never paid anyone to do it so no idea. It's not hard to do over a day or two if you're not experienced.
Hope this helps.
Dave.

Re: 1.9 tdi catastrophe.(seat Ibiza)
Dave, thanks. I ran the engine for about 15 mins after revving but smoke only billowed out in the final 30 secs . ASV is still there and standard internals, just the remap. engine did sound metallic though!
