Reusing Pistons 1.9 petrol

Post by mshaw1980 »

Hi everyone

Just measured my four pistons and all seems to be within spec Under oil control ring approx 94.01mm and around 94.15mm at the bottom of the skirt (Supposed to be like this to take into account expansion). Has anybody else reused old pistons with new rings in their engine build before ?

Will have to buy an internal micrometer to measure the cylinder liners but was thinking of using them again if ok?

What do you reckon? :-)

If you can still clearly see the honing marks and the barrels arent scuffed or scored; if the top seal groove isnt pitted, then re-use.
With pistons its all about the state of the ring grooves and how much side clearance they have got with new rings. They rarely seem to have much skirt wear IMLE

Yes I fitted the original pistons with new rings all jolly good. The only issue was that where the small end circlips fit in the grooves they had mushroomed the edges a bit which had to be ground back to size. The ring grooves and pistons were all OK. (after 113000 miles)
