Removing decal

I want to remove the front decal off my van to replace it. Any advice welcome been on youtube hot air gun seems a bit drastic.what solvant do I need to remove glue residue.

A hot air gun may seem a bit drastic but it is the easiest solution.
You won't damage the paint work, after you have removed it you can clean the residue away with a bit of brake cleaner.

I would get the blade of a scalpel and try and coax one of the edges up and peel off from there. My van was inundated with sticker (even on the plastic windows ) but this method proved very effective. Obviously if you try it err on the safe side and keep the blade at as shallow an angle as you can

Don't think a scalpel blade cost £17 . The phrase crack a walnut with a sledge hammer springs to mind. Not saying the tool is no good, just a lot of cash for the job in hand.

Machine Mart sell something similar by another manufacturer for about six quid, but the one most people seem to recommend is the 3M product.

Try a hairdryer on hot setting to loosen the glue behind it first and it should just peel away - if there is any residue left over, buy some of this as it's amazing stuff:

Just spray on, leave for a few minutes then wipe off.

As a valet I removed the livery from plenty of vehicles using a hot air gun with no problems at all, residue can be removed with white spirit, don't be tempted with any metal blades as you risk damaging the paintwork.

Thanks chaps great advice ill start with the less aggressive methods first and work my way up. I don't doubt some of the hot air gun methods but I lack the confidence as of yet as I have nothing to practice on . I'll let you know how I get on.

Well I used a scalpel blade on my 'plastic' windows, bodywork and interior units with no ill effect. In fact i would challenge anybody to look at my van and see evidence of damage by a scalpel blade! If your a practical / sensible person you will figure it out. It does sound like a scary and aggressive solution. Bottom line is, it works! However, if you don't trust yourself then stick to the safe options.

I would just add that from a point of view of my plastic windows ... I would not have trusted / considered a hot air gun or one of those 3M wheels on them.
