underslung gas tank bbq point

Hi

Want to add a bbq take off from my underslung gas tank (early westy without the take off allready installed). Do i do it after the 50mbar regulator on the tank or before and add my own regulator for the bbq?

On our Westy the BBQ point is after the regulator. I would have thought that would be the safer place to add it as the BBQ connector might not be able to cope with unregulated tank pressure.

if your not keen on cutting in your own one guzzle will sell you regulator set up with bbq point for a princely sum

cheers - will the 50mbar regulator on there be sufficient to supply a bbq as well as say the cooker ring and the fridge on gas at the same time?

We've had ours running with both rings inside the van, the fridge, and two rings outside the van without any noticeable issues so I would say no problem, provided of course that your BBQ is not 'supersized'.

it will be fine, regulator pressures aren't set for how many appliances are connected. the pressure on it is more for the gas nozzle in each appliance. The pressure in the tank is massively higher, the regulator just regulates it to 50mbr or 37mbr ect so wether you run 1,2 or 3 appliances the pressure should remain stable at around 50mbr

at a 120 euros i think i'll be cutting into it!! what size pipe / compression fittings are those on the output end of the regulator.? I guess i can add a tee on the pipe and a connector something like these two....

8mm is the size of the pipe, the bbq connector thing you linked to will work, but you will need, fittings, valves etc and it will look messy. Yes get a T, but then get a bbq point with intergrated isolation valve. its also a compression fitting and mine came with fixings to secure it

so i bought a 8mm compression T from the plumbing supplies shop but on closer inspections it has a 1/4 inch thread on it whereas the gas fittings on the westy have 5/16ths inch threads. Is that right?

so i guess to connect the copper to the westy valves i need a 5/16th nut and olive ?

how are you trying to connect the brass T? the thread on a compression T has no relation to anything really. its the olive size that matters. Are you cutting the metal westfalia gas line and installing the T or are you trying to screw something on?

was gonna put a new copper pipe to the valves in cupboard and onto the regulator - the T isnt a problem as it will fit on this new pipe ok.

The problem was what nut size i needed to fit onto the existing male thread on the valve in the cupboard and on the regulator (at either end of new pipe). I'd assumed i could use a new nut and olive from any 8mm compression fitting but although the thread pitch is the same on these the outside diameter is different.

I guess i could take the nuts and olives off the ends of the old pipe but thought it would be better to use new ones..

you can take the nut and olive off both ends and use. Just make note of the orientation of the olive as its shaped.
