oil pressure
The dual warning and gauge switch I've bought isn't small. Will it fit??

Re: oil pressure
Mind you this is the hp switch by the oil filter. But I don't think there's any more room there?

Re: oil pressure
No point taking a measurement from there it will always be high, you want the pressure measured from the low pressure switch.
pretty rubbish description by JK
what is the warning switch, normally open or closed and at what pressure?
Personally I'd keep origional switches which you can do with the remote t piece

Re: oil pressure
That sender incorporates the low pressure switch, so has to be fitted in place of the standard low pressure switch. If you fit it in place of the high pressure switch the buzzer will sound above 2000 rpm.

FFS - it isn't clear at all is it.
Drives you mad.
OK, so this replaces the low pressure switch, hopefully.
SO can someone remind me which colour.pressure rating the high pressure switch is?

Re: oil pressure
Cheers Itchy,
But as I'm trying to test out the pressure triggering the buzzer of doom, which is driven by the HP switch and the revs, how would the pressure measured at the LP port marry up with the pressure at the HP port?

Re: oil pressure
Yeh sorry didn't read back have has a few sleeps since the last page
I don't know if a remote T piece would fit in high pressure spot I can have a look, certainly no sender will fit there. switch is no good on that sender imo, maybe get a refund and get a standard pressure sender.

Re: oil pressure
Cheers mate.
I'm trying to source a grey for tomorrow and fit the gauge sender where you say.
But what's the differential in oil pressure between the two locations?
Does it vary with revs, temperature etc?

And then 123-jn says, just to confuse matters (well me...)

Re: oil pressure
Yes varies massively
grey high pressure location in in main galley by pump
blue low pressure location is in a smaller drilling off the main gallery by the camshaft by the time oil has got that far alot has leaked away and pressure is lower
switches need to be in the right location
Pressure is normally measured at the lower pressure location if you have only 0.9 bar at high pressure location above 2000 rpm then your pressure is very low hence the buzzer

Nothing wrong here
30 to 40 psi hot at tickover in hp location is over 2bar
I wonder how he has fitted that
temperature measured with an adapter can be inaccurate

The garage measured pressure with a wet gauge a few weeks ago and said it was OK (should have asked what the figure was, and how hot the engine).
The BOD is very repeatable, but getting more regular, and only comes on;
- when engine at full temperature
- revs are below 2000 rpm (if you kick it the buzzer goes out even when revs return to previous level for a few minutes to quite a while)
Travelling at high revs (above 2000 rpm) never seems to give an issue (other than petrol seeming to spray out the exhaust - economically speaking)
But here's a checking question; what revs do folks see if they're cruising along at 50mph?

Re: oil pressure
If it's going off below 2000 rpm probably not genuine low pressure
maybe dash is faulty or ingition pulse faulty
Switch will likely trigger under 2000 rpm hot but the dash should ignore it
dash has a tacho feed to measure engine revs (green wire)
