Hi im doing my home work before i jump in feet first . i have a big coach built t25 . at the moment is a 2 ltr air cooled auto . when i got it the engine was shot so i put the type 4 in from my bay . all along i was going to tdi it form a mk3 golf and fit a manual box , how ever since driving it with an auto in it Ive decided that's the way to go . could any one point me in the direction of what i need to do with a modern passat auto box to connect it up with the tdi .

afaik you won't be able to use anything other than our transmission or a porsche transmission as you won't be able to flip an autobox
Kennedy engineering in the states will do an adapter for the autobox to engine of your choice
There is a guy in Italy who modified an audi tiptronic 4wd transmission to work but that involved machining a replacement end case and making a set of gears to reverse the drive in the box, afaik it wasn't done as a commercial thing so there is no kit you can buy off the shelf to do it yourself but google may prove me wrong, you'll probably need to search in italian and german and check out the samba to see what the yanks are upto as they have a lot of autos
I don't know what diesels are like with autos
Subaru would give you the desired power and smoothness a lot easier than doing a TDi conversion, but wouldn't be as economical, but most of the diesel boys don't get stunning mpg either, especially on a coachbuilt

Cant find more details, but it definitly says they can supply a conversion kit for the tiptronic.
