Auto choke failed on Pierburg 2e3, DG 1.9

So a few weeks ago Harry doesn't want to start very easily. Having to gas it but good and rev as choke not coming on after the old tap on the acc pedal as before. Took to good garage who have a look and say it looks like the spring in the auto choke has been weakened and is knacked.

He suggests new auto choke or new carb in total.

So the price between the two is significant. The carb is working well otherwise and no emission issues at all, so I'm thinking auto choke replacement. Problem is I can only see on Brickwerks and there out of stock.

Anyone have experience with the auto choke issues, or suggestions about sourcing one?

Bearing in mind the above, I had a prod and poke. I pulled the throttle cam at the carb, and the choke engaged. It hasn't done this apparently from tapping the throttle pedal. The van then started up I a choked manner.

My wife tried again today, but tapping the throttle pedal as normal, and started up as choked. Time will see if some manual intervention solved the issue!?!?! Seems very odd.
