Sliding door handle very stiff

Post by badgerfax »

Evening peeps, This weekend I had the opportunity to open a buddy's sliding door handle and it has made me realize just how stiff my sliding door handle is compared to his van. I have already replaced one handle that sheared and I am worried that I will be breaking another one soon.

I have removed the door panel and disconnected the bowden cable from the lock and all's well with the lock end,

I have opened the slider and activated the catch that would engage the striker and tried the handle and its still stiff so the striker is in the correct place.

This must point to the catch with the weird spring that I can see in the back end of the door.

Is there any thing I can adjust with this? my only problem is that the screws holding it at the back are so tight I can not undo them.

Any Ideas?

Hi Keytouch.

Mines an early 83

His is a D reg and yes I think it was a later short handle.

I guess this is going to be the reason?
