Help in France ASAP please Leaking injector pipe on 1.6 to j

Post by hulky »

Help please

I am near Disney on les4vents campsite and have a leaking injector pipe.
I have called my breakdown who sent a guy out who rapped some sellotape stuff around it that has not worked at all....looks like decorate tape. And asked me to take it to Citron garage tomorrow morning.

Does anyone know any quick fix or something I can do to get Mr home on Tuesday without being stung ???

Thanks John

When you say you have a leaking injector pipe, I take it you mean one of the steel pipes that goes between the pump and the injector, not the braided ones that go between the injectors. The reason I want to clarify is that I can't imagine any repair person even thinking they could wrap tape around the steel injector pipe and make any difference at all.

If it's one of the steel pipes as above, there is no safe alternative to replacing with a new pipe. A local diesel specialist would be able to make up a new pipe and bend it to shape, otherwise you will need a new genuine part specific to that cylinder on that engine. If you drive with it leaking, the fine diesel mist is liable to ignite on something hot. The internal pressure is measured in thousands of bar, so no repair is going to hold. The reason they fail is often that the plastic clips between the pipes are missing.

If it's one of the soft braided rubber pipes that goes between the injectors (and it sounds like it's not those, then you can buy a kit from any parts store, and they are an easy DIY fit.

Thanks for the quick reply Colin.
Yes it is the metal injector pipe that has a hole that is as you said blowing a mist of diesel all over the engine.I new the guy didn't have a clue when he rapped the shifty tape around them.I thought that they may be a clip of some sort that would temporarily fix it.
I know it will probably take a day or two to get the new injector pipe but it will back our plans up for tomorrow.

Any competent garage should be able to braze up a pipe - depending upon where the hole is. That's what I would do for a quick fix. That could last the life of the engine. Only possible fix realistically.

Well done. Good result.

When you order, don't forget the injector pipe clips as well!
