Fitting a leisure battery under R&R seat

I have to say though Nicq, if exploding batteries happened 'quite a lot' we'd hear more about it. To put this in context, in 28 years working on VWs I've never heard of a battery explode. Seen plenty fail and one get a small leak but most batts get replaced when they go downhill (typicallly 4-5 years).

I know of 2 people it has happened to.
Both times the car was written off.

I suppose they could end up overcharged but thats often down to poor maintenance or lack of checks. Still, no doubting the potential hazards with faulty batteries and charging systems. Battery acid isn't nice.

I agree it's mostly poor maintenance but does make you think especially if it's left on continual charge at night with no load on the system to hold the voltage down on the charger.

A point to ponder.
One thing that does not seem to be mentioned is batt safety as far as explosions. If you have ever see one go you would realise why thet fit them in a metal container with a metal lid. Not only does it do damage the acid goes everywhere. Just a thought under your bed.

Good point and I know we use our under-bed area like the under-the-stairs area at home. We chuck all sorts of rammel in there. As one who has had a metal strapped watch welded together while it was on my wrist as it bridged the positive terminal of a car battery to earth I would recommend putting it in a covered and vented box.

Not a prob if you section battery off. Mine is in a cupboard.
