Any tips on how to quiet down the noise from the engine bay and also to seal it
I was wondering if there was possibly insulation for the engine door plate ..

Re: Quieting engine noise
The engine cover should have an insulating foam back which keeps the heat and noise out? We also made a foam mat which covers the whole rear bay further insulating it. If you can find it VW made a heavy rubber mat with a thick sound insulated back but they're hard to get.

Re: Quieting engine noise
This was recommended on one of the other boards if it helps:

(Just the 1 sheet needed to do the engine cover, £26.34)
Not got round to fit any myself yet, but it's on the list

Re: Quieting engine noise
With the rear box and mattress and bedding on top of that I don't hear any engine noise despite one clip being bust and foam sealant around lid fitting where it touches.
Quietist stroke I ever pulled was to replace the rusted tail end on the exhaust pipe to direct exhaust to the rear instead of bouncing exhaust noise sideways back from whatever I an passing. Driving on the right in Europe the noise bounced back from parked cars, walls and fencing. etc., before repair.

Re: Quieting engine noise
I've also used this stuff http://www.asap-supplies.com/search/qui ... ing-801834" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I relined my engine bay lid with it and put it over the rear bulkhead and rear wheel arches (i.e. under the bench seat) as a lot of noise (both engine and road 'drumming') is transmitted through there. It has done the job very well and I'm now using the same stuff in my (even noisier!) bay where it has also made a significant difference.
