Gearbox Question

Post by Titus A Duxass »

I want to fit a speed signal sensor.
The type that I have is a sensor that can "read" the CV bolt heads.

I want to drill and tap (M8) this tab on the gearbox

Is this okay?
I don't want to drill into something sensitive.
The overside is already tapped but I cannot use it as it has a heatsheild mounted on it.

Are you already using the speedo VSS Paul or is it not compatible?

Paul that's fine to use the tab, most peeps though either use the bolt that holds the slave cylinder support strut/and clutch pipe stop plate or to get nice and close to the flange use one of the philips head screws holding the adjusting ring cover washers in place behind the flange, they are M7 x1.25 but plenty of metal to go to M8, the washer is spring steel obviously
VSS has to added unless you had cruise fitted, the module clips in back of speedo head, I'm not sure if original is available now, but RJES may do one that fits, though whether it talks VAG or Scooby I know not, or whether it matters

I have fitted an RJES one and it goes straight in but cured nothing in my case. Still in the back of the speedo in my ex-Subaru bus. Will probably need it later.

Made from approx. 1.5 (GM Astra 4 ?) ABS sensor rings carefully welded together iirc.
There are easier ways of doing it.
I am sure that syncroandy knows the pulse output rate of the rjes/vw speedo vss and with what it does or doesn't work
