I have to admit to reading all previous posts about checking fuel lines and then not checking them  .
That was until the other weekend when we were setting of for Camperjam and amongst other things the fuel pump packed up. Decided to check/replace the fuel lines and filter at the same time. Once I'd wiped the crud etc off the filter the crimped fastener fell off when I touched it and the inside of the fuel line was perished. Replaced it with new lines and clips.

'My van always has a petrol wiff it's normal'

er no it's not.

these are 1kg, now replaced with 2kg because they were out of date.
old 1kg units were discharged, probably got 10 seconds max ask your self is that enough to put a fire out?

Other common potential fire risks for petrol vans are

1 the extra fuel filter in engine bay added out of ignorance, these are made from thin plastic and can't take any heat, often seen above the inlet manufold, coolant can get to 90 degrees, melting temp of most plastics isn't much higher, if you have one there remove it.

2 on petrol vans the main thick battery cable rubs on the chassis by the first pclip back from starter because of engine movement, cut a short length of hose pipe open wrap around hold in place by cable ties.

3 on petrol vans the two electrical circuits to carb run over a hot engine and the wire insulation degrades, cracks, falls off, these are NOT fused and melt wiring if shorted to engine or body, add fuses to the ignition black and red thermoswitch circuit in the black box. Also inspect, insulate or replace bad wires regularly.

4 wiring loom runs through chassis below black box and can rub through insulation just becase of vibration, add some extra insulation.

might want to spend only a little more money and get a co2 fire extinguisher instead of a powder one. powder ones leave quite a mess in the vehicle that is very hard to get rid of (e.g. under the dashboard)
