Loose spark plugs

Post by ethelred the ready »

Doing a mini service today and found one of the plugs was loose! I had heard a chuffing from engine for a while and assumed it was just a leaking exhaust header, another job to put off until the summer. Fortunately no damage done to plug thread by leaking gases, and more power and economy recovered. Moral of the story, don't ignore those little sounds! Come to think of it that was the moral of my last breakdown too.....

Yes had the same myself before which is why I now use a torque wrench to tighten them, most people don't tighten enough because they are worried about stripping threads.

low range torque wrench needed for this and sump plug.
