Fog/spot light wiring

Post by danmetallic »

Can anyone enlighten me on how to mod the wiring so the front spot lights turn on independently of the main/side lights.

Installing Terrapodz to work on that circuit.

Thanks, Dan.

I thought that, by law, they could only come on in conjunction with the other lights.

Although you could wire it so that they have a switch but are dependent on the headlights actually being on (ie taking their supply from headlight circuit) to even work. That would be a safe bet. However, if you have the original harness (ie no headlight relays), I'd be doing that job first.

Worth noting that the load on the 6mm dash supply cable is already maxed out which tends to cause a voltage drop and pi$$ poor lights. I wrote a chunk for the WIKI on improving the situation. That and headlight relays will give you far better light out front plus eliminating heating up the original dash supply cable.

Its tempting to add more lights in order to improve things but the power to the dash is barely enough as it is.

Thanks folks! I installed the headlight relay mod some time ago so I get a very healthy 13.5v at the lights. Decided I'm just going to have them coming on with the side lights.

Terrapodz all wired in (via the first click of the fog lights for those that were following the thread from the other day). Now to mount them.
