New engine earth braid

Post by mirams »

I've got a 2.1 DJ, and the engine earth braid from left of engine to near the coil has rotted right through.

Is there a recommended source for replacements, or failing that does anyone know how long it is supposed to be for a stock one?

I would measure the old one, but it is in more than one piece, and bits might be missing!

I had to replace mine about a month ago. Unusually it was not visibly damaged and mechanically sound, but corrosion had attacked at the braid to terminal ring join. The effect was intermittent failure - hard to diagnose!
I was short of time so bought one from Halfords: 45 cm long, £6-99. After 3000 miles it seems fine. The original was about 42 cm.

Got the Halfords 45cm one, looks a little on the long side, but I put a kink in it so isn't dangling on anything. Has done the trick anyway.
