Head skim on 1.9 DG

Hello

I have the heads off and seem to have some small pitting on the head face so was after getting them skimmed was wondering if it was possible on my petrol 1.9 DG , as have seen a few threads saying it's not possible on the Diesel engines

Also I am replacing the valves as I have a valve with a small burn mark / crack in it but when it was running befor I took it apart it was running fine with no misfire ?

Whatever is machined off the sealing face also has to be removed from the barrel sealing lands, to maintain the water jacket seal pressure.
I would suggest giving them a good wire brushing to find out just how deep the pitting goes.

Pitting on the water jacket seal surface is common, some people use liquid metal but my opinion and experience is that the Dirko-s will fill the pits just fine as long as they are cleaned out with a fine wire brush and meths.

Dirko is a silicone compound and Silicone when dry dosen't like to stick to more Silicon so don't prefil the pits with Dirko, do it all in one hit when assembling.

I use Dirko on both sides of seal.

Thanks for the advice I thought it may be common as have seen a few pictures of them with pitting

So it maybe best not to get the head skimmed although the skimming will be free of a mate with a machine shop

I'll try get some pictures up of the pitting over the weekend

No don't skim, as said the head does not bolt hard against anything on that surface, the stop or compression when tightening head studs is the barrel and it's mating surface, so skimming the water jacket surface means it will not compress the rubber seal properly.
