Morning forum folk,
Small query, we have finally managed to find an engine for our beloved Tillie Anne thanks to Jason at Volksworld in Redruth. In the process of preparing it to go back in the van we removed the sump plug to drain the old oil ready for some fresh stuff. But guess what when trying to put the sump plug back in it wont tighten.
Can someone tell me if this kit is suitable to repair the issue:-

Also would you suggest a new sump plug, or keep the original and use a new collapsible washer.
I have checked some previous threads on here but wanted someone to say yes that will work or don't be so stupid, muppet!!!
Regards
Adam

Kit is fine but you will need some shorter helicoils if its wbx
I think from memory 0.8D (about 11mm long) buy them seperately

Possible other option is to use an over sized plug.

IME the M16 oversized plugs are too big to allow the sealing washer to seat properly on a wbx: the counterbore is sized for the original plug but no bigger. Choises are either have the engine stripped down to a case and being machined OR engaging the services of a "thread doctor" who has have the correct tools to do the job in-situ.

Plenty of people have helicoiled their own sumps.
Just make sure you get it square, use grease on the drill and tap to collect swarf and flush with oil.
last one I did I used a plastic tube cut square as a guide, no leaks.

Thanks guys,
Have purchased the kit, just trying to get hold of the 0.8D inserts. Are the 1.0D inserts still too big?
Sorry guys, yes its a 1.9 DG WBX engine.
On a slightly different note, on the exhaust near the silencer there are two exhaust brackets, not the usual u shape, circular ones. Does anyone know if these can be purchased separately, or do they only come coupled with the particular exhaust parts?
Regards

Yes tried finding 0.8D myself on ebay with no luck, deffo bought them off ebay before, 1.0D will stick through so your oil doesn't fully drain, metal is about 10mm thick at that point, not the end of the world but not ideal.
Re exhaust get a picrure up (unless you are talking my pic?)

Thanks itchyfeet. I have ordered the 1D ones to get me out of a hole, my concern was more whether it would catch on anything in the engine, but take on board the oil drain issue.
Will get the pic up asap regards the exhaust brackets.
