Currently in my T25 my Fridge is an Electrolux 212B. But I have had the wiring repaired as it wasn't working but it still is not working therefore I'm thinking the fridge is broke.

Any further thoughts?

In terms of new fridges does anyone have any thoughts as to good ones / where to pick one up / new vs second hand etc.

Does it work on gas ?

If you are only concerned here about the electric operation, try putting your meter across the heating element (with no power connected) and measure it's resistance. It should be in the region of 1.5 Ohms (which on most meters will read as a dead short).

Just in case you didn't know, these fridges take a good couple of hours (or more) before you can notice the thing getting cold. Also note you cannot really test them with just a battery for long enough to get cold, the battery will get flattened too quickly.

Havent tested with gas, the camper was in for its MOT so got the guys to look at it, and they've re-done the wiring but said its definitely the fridge that has now gone.

I've read a few mixed reviews with this model of fridge that they only work off gas, but I'm not sure. I'm happy to go with the garages word I did question the gas issue, but I don't always have gas in the van anyway so would rather one that ran off electrics if possible.

But when you say electric do you mean 12v or mains hook up? You cannot run a normal camping fridge off 12v whilst parked up, it will flatten the battery in no time.

Google says that that model is a 3 way one so what are the results on testing on each supply. As above 12v will/should only be operational with the engine running.

My fishmonger says that I am wearing the wrong shoes! .......Why get a garage to mess about something that isn't their area of expertise? Have they checked the 230v, gas and 12v operation?

I bet it is working. It's just not been left on for long enough to tell (2+hours and on the mains)

I know lots of camper owners that park and drive with them switched to gas. Tried it with my 3-way on hills, bends, all sorts. Worked fine on gas. Its generally only when lighting it that it needs to be level.

The garage said they tested it, corrected a wiring issue and tested that was working and then plugged it into the mains, but the fridge did not register the charge.

According to the garage. Unfortunately I kind of have to go with what they are suggesting, I guess?!

I have to agree that a garage testing a fridge doesn't really make sense. I would almost guarantee that it's working. Best bet is to read the wiki and get stuck in there yourself. There's not really v much to go wrong on them that can't be fixed.

As ^^^^^^^ There is so little to go wrong on these fridges that it is nigh on impossible to not be able to get them working again easily.

And the heating element for the mains is a separate one from the 12 Volt one and it would be a heck of a coincidence for both of them to be open circuit.

Okay great so where first to look?

Something that I've read and cant quite work out as few mixed messages (would completely explain why it doesnt run off the electric is whether it is just gas.

Electrolux 212B - Seen a few for sale and most say ''have only ever ran it off gas so not sure if it works of electric''.

Also due to the fact I dont have a link up for the mains lead unless at a camp site makes it difficult to test.

Any pointers on where to start would be great.

My fridge is also never used on 12v or 230v - it is run on gas all the time except when refuelling.
Just buy an adapter to use your mains hookup lead at home or make your own - not expensive.
