Eber D2 or Webasto Airtop 2000 ?

Post by zak »

I have to replace an Eberspacher D2 that got stolen from my van (all of it) and a local installer is saying Webasto Airtop 2000 is cheaper (with them) and quieter etc.

I was happy with the D2 but since I have a choice now, whats your opinions on them please?

The webastos do seem better priced. Saying that I have a eber D1LC in mine and it's pretty good, got it pretty cheap quite a few years ago though

I was in the market for a heater and I asked around.
There is only little difference between the two. They are both up to the job. They are both good.
It's a question of personal preference. Eberspacher is a little bit more advanced with the controls.

Thanks all, Oldie appreciate the offer. Its to replace a brand new D2 that was stolen at a garage so naturally I want it replaced with brand new unit. An installer local to me in Maldon Essex does a lot of volume with the Webasto so can offer a fair price on installation. I'll probably go with that. Whats the difference in the 2000 suffix letters please?

Pity - the only brand new 2000S unit was only sold recently! How on earth was a complete installation stolen?

The D is the older model - it is unlikely that a new one will be offered although they are still around. Example:
Image
The S is basically the same heater just with a smaller casing, it uses the same type of ecu and motor. It looks the same as the ST -
The ST is the most modern, it has a completely different ecu and motor. Example:
Image
They are all the same as regards heat output (2Kw) and controllability. (They all have the same heat exchanger size and shape).
The ST is the quietest with the newer type of motor - it is whisper quiet. If you can get a good price go for it. Are you fitting it yourself or having it fitted? I would say fit it yourself as it isn't difficult once you get stuck in and are reasonably handy and that will save you the installation costs. (Several people on here will testify how easy it is to install the ones that I have sold them)

Thanks Oldie, always very helpful :D .

I installed the D2 myself, but as the theft was while in the garages care I will get it installed and recover the cost. The place I rang for the quote said they are quiet as well and I just checked the quote and it is for the ST.

Believe it or not my Tracker unit was also stolen !!

That was a bit of bad luck - I bet you don't use that garage still!

Can you activate the tracker to see where the eber is?

Maybe they thought the tracker was part of the heater set up.

Yep mental. Also lost my radio, even took a low water level light that was next to heater controls and pulled out wiring in the process. So I think that's right the scum moron thought the tracker and warning light were part of the heater setup. Also lost 3 wheel centre caps but hopefully he didn't think they were part of the heater!! :?
Tracker were not even slightly interested in trying to trace the unit.
