Electric coolant pump
After the vehicle has run does the electric pump stay running for a little while after engines it is turned off?

The engine was not that hot just running on the drive when I was checking new power steering pipes Temp gauge not high.

If it was sat on the drive without air being forced through the rad then it's highly likely it was hot. That's what I do on the odd occasion to check that the fan is kicking in.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Laws could you tell us the year and engine type? at the moment we are guessing...a bit!
