Ominous knocking sound

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Ominous knocking sound

Post by jameshamilton »

Hello,

New to this forum. New to owning a T25 for that matter. Anyhow, driving back from our maiden voyage yesterday, I noticed an ominous knocking sound which appears to be coming from the gearbox/transmission. It only appears when I come off the throttle -- when I'm accelerating, or when the clutch is engaged, the sound vanishes. Looking around on here, it sounds like it could be the front offside CV joint

The van is a 1981 2.0l air-cooled (Westy Joker conversion)

Anyone on here with a) any idea what it could be and b) any recommendations for a good VW-friendly garage in South London?

Cheers,

James

CV joint, and don't keep driving it or it'll fail in traffic requiring a tow truck. Not a hard job to do at home - just dirty.
