Just a thought .
Surely the spark should jump from the live central core to the grounded gap cover (not the proper name but guess you know what I mean). When you take the gap end off the engine the spark jumps from the outer end of the gap to the engine block (Earth). Does this mean the outside of your plug is live? Is there a fault in the plug resulting in the outer, rather than inner core, becoming live?
Your back plug is performing ok so swap the leads and plugs over and see if the problem moves from front to back.

I had exactly the same issue with my XV, it was eating plugs every other week on the front cylinder. I ended up using BP6ES plugs and so far I have had no issues with burning out the plugs. On my XV the front cylinder has always run way hotter than the rear and seems to have a lower fuel delivery than the rear. I've tried setting the twin carbs up numerous times to no avail. In the end I went with a single carb setup which runs a lot better but still hotter on the front.

Where did you find a manifold ??
