I am trying to finish the last few bits on a Petrol to Diesel (Golf SB ) engine conversion.(1982 van)
On the diesel engine there are two senders in a plastic housing on a water pipe.
I am guessing one is for the cold start timer, one for the auxiliary water pump (both of which I will wire up once it is MOT’ed)
These have a “two spade connecter “presumably as they are in a plastic housing and need an earth.
There is a more conventional sender at the back of the cylinder head –is this the water temp. Sender?
There is a sender near the oil filter/cooler and one in the sump(sump is from a JX) what are these two for? I am trying to find the oil pressure warning sender
Any help really appreciated, especially as electricary is not my strong point.
The colours of the corresponding petrol engine loom wires for water temp. and oil pressure would also be very useful.
I have a Haynes manual on the way, but does anyone Know of a good source for info. On the SB engine? The Golf and Passat manuals I have seen don’t cover this engine only the AAZ variant.
Thanks

Re: Temp and oil senders on a Petrol to Diesel conversonn
Hi Mig,My van has a JX engine..the two senders on the pipe coming out of the centre of the head..one is for the temperature gauge the other is for the auxiliary water pump. The sender on the front of the head [on the water outlet for the heater] is for the glowplug system. The sender on the oil filter stand is the high pressure switch [normally open] The sender on the sump I guess is for an oil temperature gauge i'll see if I can find out more info for you!
