Fuel Line replacement

Post by JessIvan »

I've just bought a new fuel line and filter and was wondering what the best method of replacement is!
Do I need an empty tank or is there a way to replace it all without having fuel EVERYWHERE?

As long as the engine isn't running there is only gravity pulling petrol from the tank into the line. Even a thumb over the end will stop the flow.

Get a clamp on the 1st hose section between the main tank and the fuel filter. Then replace all the fuel line further up the chain.

Lastly replace the small section you clamped (Just in case the clamp has damaged the hose) by just plugging the fuel tank hole with your finger and doing it with a little haste.

Keep the clamp and old section of hose close to hand, if the new hose won't go on easily, put the old (Clamped) hose back on.

You'll spill some petrol, but not much. Obviously I'd also have a container under the clamped section and keep an eye on it.

Not too sure about 'risk assessments' etc, but this worked for me with little or no drama.

PS: I'd also wait a while and step away from the van before sparking up that victory cigarette

PPS: Make sure you have all the tools you need within reach before using your finger as a plug.
