I think that's pretty neat, especially for a home made set-up. One of my square headlights is looking a bit sorry for itself, and I was steeling myself to have to pay out £150 for a replacement. Thnakfully, it somehow got through the MOT, so I can put off the expense for another year. But I had been thinking about swapping over to something else, so this is food for thought.

Probably easier to get a Mk 2 Scirocco set to fit.

I admire the enginuity (use of materials could be applied to other tricky projects) and it reminds me of my old Rover P6 and the Dolomite some years before (in a good way)
Quad 5 & 3/4" lamps defo have a period North American look to them, again in a good way.

I toyed with this for quite a while, mainly I suppose because I used to suffer from candle-power lighting but having made so many changes since, modern lights, better cables, relays etc, I haven't bothered. The gain I suspect, is more a cosmetic one (and they do look different) but heck I don't need any more light out front. :D

The second set would be more a 'fill-in' like using spots. I'd still be keen on fabricating a nicer grill though.

someone will come up with a square light replacement soon, If hella can't be convinced maybe someone else. Classic are also remaking more and more stuff. It'll happen... And if not, there is places that will re silver knackered lights

Good to see someone doing something different though.

I always think a great gimmick for round headlights would be googly eyes that you could control from in the cab so when you're at a T-junction your van can look left and right.

I think that looks ok, it would be interesting to see a single round grill modified in a similar style. The SA grill looks like a cheap aftermarket design to me and single round lights look lost in such a wide plastic grill.

So what we need is some way to mount a round headlight in a square hole, while the square one is off being re-silvered.....
