Change a Pierburg carb to Solex carb

Post by boab »

Hi
I have a 1986 camper with a 1.9 dg engine with a pierburg 2e carb, it is giving me probems at the moment ,same thing as a lot of people have had not idling, have checked for air leaks and nothing found,and i was wondering if a Solex 34PICT - 5 would fit straight on as i have been offered one for nothing.

Not a straight fit
Does it idle in the first 5 mins of starting?

Yes, choke comes on and it works fine, when choke goes off it cuts out, renewed all vac hoses and did service also did a rebuild kit from brickwerks but still the same, have turned idle adjuster up a bit and it idles alright but high.

Hi Kev
My brother in law is a mechanic and he did everything you say apart from the brake servo hose , will give that a try this weekend, I Have found a company in Prestwick that specialises in Peirburg carbs so might have to bite the bullet and get them to look at it if that doesn't work.

Suddenly, or does it slow down and die? Bit of a long shot, but worth checking this wiring: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... 6#p7991206" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
