Removing front chunky style front bumper fitting spoiler

Post by Wiredone2 »

Hello, hopefully someone can help.

I need to remove the front bumper so that I can clean and repaint my front valence and refit my spoiler. I have looked in the Haynes manual and it describes the removal of the older thinner bumpers with end caps not my larger ones that seem to be in one piece with two fixings on the front, Am i missing something? I have attached a photo of one of the two rusty fixings.

Also does anyone have any tips for refitting my front 5 piece spoiler?

Many thanks in advance.

Hmmm, tried a search and nothing came of it, obviously searched for the wrong thing. So the rusty circular bits in my pic should just pop out revealing a bolt?

With regard to the spoiler, it now seems quite obvious that it fits to the crossmember under the bumper so the bumper will definitely need to come off?

Many thanks

If that rusty circular bit is on the front face of the bumper that is the bolt, it has a large diameter head to spread the load.

The other two bolts go through the brackets into the body under the ends of the bumper.

The chin spoiler is normally secured with a mixture of large self tappers and bolts/screws into rivinuts. You can fit it without removing the bumper.

It should be an internal hex suitable for a hex key (allen key).

This is what they should look like and where you can get new ones.

If yours is totally fubarred you should be able to drive it round with a hammer and centre punch.
