The old "wheel bearings on their way out" MOT advisory

Most of us know that many of our vans get an advisory, (or even a fail ) on lateral play in the wheel bearings. Also, many of us know that as long as it is only minimal, this is pretty normal on T25s.

Mine has had this advisory every year for years now . They obviously don't remember it from the previous year, because it never actually fails !

I wonder if there is a "formal" document anywhere "we" could produce to the MOT station informing them of this?

Can you measure the play side to side top to bottom please John?

mine is only a couple of mm but I think it would be good to see what is considered an mot advisory.
somebody a few days ago said 10mm top to bottom got an advisory.

Last year on the mot I took Jambo to a garage I hadn't been to before (non specific type of garage) and amazingly the young lad said " you've got play in your rear wheel bearings but that's normal for a T25" I was amazed .

That would be me, after checking it out post MOT I will admit to being a little Baron Munchaussen over it, possibly as sometimes things look worse than at first seemed, particularly when measured with my eyes, I would like to re quote myself as I have now measured it and it is about 3mm of movement. Honestly thought it was more than that

I get this too every year on the advisories - same on the fronts even though I adjust them up properly once a year. Strange thing is some years it is only the left side , other years also the right. Perhaps it varies with the weather Not measured but enough to only just notice if I rock them. Rears with the drums and wheels on just as on the mot - I'm sure it would be a better test if I removed the brake shoes and replaced the drum and wheel.

The other advisory I get often is brake shoes slightly dragging. That is because I always tighten up the adjusters from the days they used to complain / fail you if the handbrake was not locked after four or five clicks regardless of how many clicks were in reserve. I believe they have relaxed on that one nowadays but it is still the last thing I do before the MOT - tighten the autoadjusters until I can just feel them dragging.
