Mega Van Mats - Sound Deadening?
I am looking to trim the interior of my Doka with MVM lining carpet and noticed they do sheets of sound deadener, has anyone got any experience of this stuff? Is it worth fitting first before the liner?

Re: Mega Van Mats - Sound Deadening?
I bought a pack when I got the carpet. It needs to be done before lining the van. 25% coverage of the panel is suggested; no need to cover everything. I just spread it out over most panels till it ran out. Can't say how good it is as my van isn't running yet. Hopefully I should be able to tell you in a few months. Seems decent value for money too. Jon.

Thanks jonny, would be good to hear from anyone with before and after knowledge before I commit.

Best stuff is this (in my view) if you're really want to kill sound from panels:

Not looked to compare prices. Two packs should do the lot easy I'd have thought.

A slightly tetchy listing and factually incorrect. Not someone who has much understanding of convection or heat transfer. Well priced though. I have paid 20 per sq.m at non-VW shows...
NOTE THIS IS HIGH QUALITY CAMPER VAN CAR INSULATION FOAM / FOIL NOT JUST FOIL BUBBLE RUBBISH!!! HOW CAN METAL BUBBLE INSULATION STOP CONDENSATION OR EVEN STOP THE HEAT COMING IN OR OUT JUST BY STICKING EXTRA METAL TO METAL DOES NOT INSULATE OR SOUND DEADEN BUT HEY ITS CHEAP AND LOOKS GOOD IN THE PICTURES

Re: Mega Van Mats - Sound Deadening?
Looks more like the stuff used to kill ambient sound 'bouncing around' rather than to stop panel resonance. From the ad it appears to be being sold as thermal,as opposed to sound, indulation. Silent coat is ace for panel resonance.
Re: Mega Van Mats - Sound Deadening?
I did my entire floor up to the back of the front seats, and put some strips on the sides, then covered with thermal foil insulation and carpet, and it's really quiet in there!!
Only problem is when I'm driving u can still hear the kids in the back!!

Flashband. Nice and heavy. Not fire retardant either.

Do you cover the kids in it to stop the noise and does it stop them from asking are we nearly there yet,if so I'll put some on the wife as she wants to know when my doka will be on the road and not on the drive!!!!!!!!Gusbang wrote:Tobias13 wrote:I did my entire floor up to the back of the front seats, and put some strips on the sides, then covered with thermal foil insulation and carpet, and it's really quiet in there!!

There's a link here to some deadening that was posted up by a forum member a while back:

Re: Mega Van Mats - Sound Deadening?
I've used flashband on the large expanses of panel, foil bubble wrap all over, then ply lined with foil bubble on the back and stretch carpet on the front. Now it's so quiet I can hear the roar or the engine and all the wind noise
!! So the next plan is to use some stuff from here
http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine/boa ... insulation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm thinking on the front of the sloping panel, and on the engine side of the sloping panel and above the engine, and maybe in the footwell too, as well as that trick of blocking up the bottom of the A pillar with foam. And I would like an under tray...

Re: Mega Van Mats - Sound Deadening?
My setup has both sound and thermal outcomes, but I do have a diseasel, which is pretty noisy, and its a converted panel van with NO built in thermal insulation anywhere.
