Edited - just 1 stupid question now, rear wiper turn on?
Help please guys.
Stupid question.... How do I turn the rear wiper on. I've never used it but want to test it now. I thought you pushed the wiper stalk away from you, but it doesn't seem to move in that direction.
Thanks in advance.

Yes you just push it away from you!! I've just replaced the motor and gear from a mk 2 golf rear wiper into the original housing and now working fine.

Are you aware we have a technical section for technical questions?

Yes, but I didn't think turning on a wiper should be as technical as it seems to be! The wiring should be I guess, but I thought there was a really slim chance these were related.
Could I have the wrong stalk? I'm sure it doesn't move away from me. Feels as though it would snap first!

Hi Julia.
I think that makes the windscreen washers go on mine. Too late to go check though!

I sometimes think we should have one.

Ok, quick look this morning, the stalk definitely doesn't want move away from me.
So, duff stalk or are there 2 versions?
Actually, I guess the question is do all t25s have a rear wiper? Maybe something has been swapped out, but not for the right bit.
I guess this can't be related to the wiring now, so I'll start another thread about that.

I think you're right on at least two versions of the stalk. I can't see early T25 stalks having this option but perhaps all new replacements do as a 'fit all' solution. I sealed mine up at back. It worked ok but was sick of topping up two washer bottles and as its almost vertical, it stays clean anyway. Its just one more thing for vandals to tug on.
I keep meaning to use that function to actuate brake lights for tail-gaters
Not legal though

So I wonder if the rear wiper is even wired up?
Was a new switch or new tailgate fitted possibly!
Sounds like I need to do some investigation, starting in the tailgate to see what the loom looks like.

Rear w/wipe loom runs from fuseboard, across dash and up rh A post, then behind headlining on rhs. Not an easy retro-fit, I recently extracted one from a breaker and I am not looking forward to the re-fit.

Fingers crossed it's just a bad stalk.
What colour wire does the rear wiper on the stalk please? That'd be a good start I suppose!
Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Edited - just 1 stupid question now, rear wiper turn on?
Four wires on the stalk for the rear wiper? Surely not !
I thought the wiper motor would only 2 or 3 wires, depending if it has an earth wire or uses the case to earth. Other than that, positive feed & positive trigger.
